Local rider: Rachael

Rachael lives in Ramsbottom and can be regularly found on the hills above either on her bike or fell running. She’ll be around at Northern Grip helping out on the Sustrans stand.

Rachael Kelly ( nee Stoney the new Mrs Mike NG).

38.

3. Day job?

Teaching young people to grow food in Heaton Park community garden (part of the Eagle & Child gastronomic empire – our Sunday pre ride breakfast venue!)

4. What was your first mountain bike?

Giant Iguana (sadly stolen).

5. What bikes do you own currently?

Trek road .
Cube hardtail.
Retro Raleigh from nicebikethat.co.uk (nudge nudge Mr Haworth).

6. What is your favourite trail around Ramsbottom?

Up the Coal Road – it’s lovely and grassy (weirdo).

7. What is your favourite album? And/or favourite artist?

Bjork – Debut. And anything by Simon and Garfunkel – with a bit of Chemical Brothers thrown in.

8. What was the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Really hard question! It’s between Future Islands at the Kazimier in Liverpool or Japandroids at Manchester Academy. Also, British Sea Power and Sinead O’Connor at Ramsbottom Festival were pretty special.

9. What’s your current tipple of choice?

All the fizz we’ve got in the fridge from just getting married to Mr Kelly

10. Why do you ride bikes?

Because my Dad made me from a young age! He was so mean ; ) He had me and my brother cycling up Tour classics in our early teens. But also because it’s fun isn’t it? And it’s MUCH better than driving a car, even in the rain.
